Four design leaders describe abandoning top-down AI mandates for structured freedom. Maze's Netali Jakubovitz scrapped a rigid adoption policy for what she calls going "bonanza," giving designers budget and time with no rules attached. DoorDash went the opposite direction operationally but the same direction philosophically: a company BHAG pushed every designer to ship PRs, backed by a two-day hackathon that produced 200 of them. Stripe's Katie Dill and Watershed's Hannah Hudson both land on the same bottleneck, dedicated time to actually build, not just tool access.
