When Rapid Prototyping with AI Causes Gaps, Try This Method

Bex Jeanson, a designer working on Paylocity's automation platform, describes using Figma Make to rapidly prototype an MVP and finding the tool exposed unresolved structural questions rather than validating an idea, such as whether notifications belong at the step, automation, or global level, and whether triggers count as steps.

Rather than push forward, Jeanson ran a multi-week object-oriented UX (OOUX) sprint with a second designer, defining the system's objects and their relationships before returning to Figma Make with wireframes and a full OOUX output set.

AI helped generate nouns and verbs but faltered on relationship decisions, leaving judgment calls to the humans. The resulting prototype became a shared artifact that later helped a separate team keep an unrelated automation feature consistent with the existing model.
