DesignWhine's operating model sorts UX work into four lanes, Delegate, Co-create, Human-owned and Restricted, arguing that AI-native teams need explicit decision rights rather than blanket adoption targets. The piece leans on outside data: McKinsey's 2025 survey found workflow redesign correlated most strongly with EBIT impact from generative AI, yet only 21% of adopters had actually redesigned workflows. Figma's research shows designers doing development work nearly doubling to 41% while 90% of designers still call design as important or more important than before AI. The framework's real test is the human-owned lane: if nobody on a team can explain a decision without pointing at a model's output, the piece argues, that decision was delegated past the point it should have been.
